A New Normal: How to be Prepared Legally and Financially When a Loved One Has Alzheimer's Disease

Learn from an Elder Law Attorney about making legal and financial decisions on behalf of a loved one with Alzheimer's Disease.

Youville Place Assisted Living Residence in Lexington invites the community to a discussion, My Loved One Has Alzheimer’s Disease: How to be Legally and Financially Prepared, on Saturday, June 13th at 9:30 AM. The speaker, Elder Law Attorney John R. Hope, Esq. will share important information about making legal and financial decisions on behalf of a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease.

This presentation will guide participants through the range of options available when planning for a loved one’s future. Attorney Hope will discuss essential legal documents that need to be in place to assure a loved one’s wishes are honored when he or she can no longer communicate. He will also outline the practical steps to assure that estate planning meets the unique needs of the family. In addition, participants will learn about expanded eligibility for free home care benefits for persons with Alzheimer’s disease through MassHealth/Medicaid’s Home and Community Based Services Waiver.

This event is part of Youville’s ongoing community series, “A New Normal,” featuring expert speakers who address topics of interest to Alzheimer’s caregivers. All programs in this series are free and open to the public. Future presentations include Keeping Your Loved One Safe at Home, with Joanne Fontaine, RN, BSN, CCM on Saturday, September 12th; and Behavioral Management Techniques with Mal Allard, Director of The Courtyard at Youville Place, on Saturday, November 14th.

About the Speaker

Attorney John R. Hope, Esq. graduated with honors from Boston College Law in 1992 and served as a judicial clerk to the Justices of the Superior Court of Massachusetts. In 2003, he founded Hope Elder Law in Watertown, Massachusetts, where he has lived since 1995. Attorney Hope is active with charitable work in the Watertown community, where he is a member of the Watertown Rotary and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Marshall Home Fund, a charitable fund to assist the elderly in the local community.
