Overnight Rolling Roadblocks on I-95 Starting Saturday

The roadblocks will cover both I-95 North and South at Rte. 2.

LEXINGTON, MA—Drivers looking to travel on I-95 and Rte. 2 this weekend will want to avoid overnight rolling roadblocks.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation announced Tuesday that ”rolling roadblocks” will be in effect between 12 and 4 a.m. from Feb. 13 to 17. The affected area will be between exits 28 (Trapelo Road) and 30 (Rte. 2A).

Multiple lane closures will be in effect between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. during this period to facilitate the blocks. After 11:00 PM, one travel lane on I-95 North and South will remain open, except when a “rolling roadblock” is taking place.

The following ramp and lane closures will be in effect, according to MassDOT:

  • I-95 North – 2 low speed lanes – 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • I-95 North – 3 low speed lanes – 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM
  • I-95 South – 2 high speed lanes – 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM
  • I-95 South – 3 high speed lanes – 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM
  • Route 2 East – low speed lane – 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM
  • Exit 52B from Route 2 East to I-95 North
  • Ramp from Trapelo Road eastbound to I-95 North

Here are some detours you can take to avoid the roadblocks, according to MassDOT:

  • Route 2 East to I-95 North – From Route 2 East, take Exit 53 to Spring Street, turn right onto Spring Street and cross over Route 2, turn right onto Hayden Avenue, and turn right onto the on-ramp to Route 2 West. From Route 2 West, take Exit 52B onto I-95 North.
  • Eastbound Trapelo Road to I-95 North – From Trapelo Road, turn left onto Smith Street, which becomes Spring Street. From Spring Street, turn right onto Hayden Avenue and continue to the ramp to Route 2 West. From Route 2 West, take Exit 52B onto I-95 North.
