Paid Brain Imaging Study For Kids & Young Adults
Boston Children's Hospital in Waltham is seeking participants for a paid brain MRI study seeking to understand concussions and migraines.
Researchers at the Boston Children’s Hospital in Waltham are seeking kids, teens, and young adults to participate in ongoing brain imaging studies to help understand how concussions and migraines change brain activity.
Participants may be eligible if they are:
- Healthy OR experience migraines OR have experienced a concussion within the past year
- Not currently on any medications or drugs
- Ages 8-25
- Right-handed
- Do not have any metal implants (e.g. braces and permanent retainers)
- Not claustrophobic
Study sessions involve:

- A single visit (~2.5 hours in length) to BCH-Waltham
- Filling out health surveys
- Brief sensory testing to cold and warm temperatures
- A neurological exam with out study physician
- ~30-50 minutes (depending on the study) MRI scan, with breaks in between
Compensation includes:
- $100-$120 VISA gift card (depending on the study)
- Brain pictures from the scan on a disc to take home
- Free parking
By volunteering, participants will be contributing to important medical research on the possible causes and consequences of different chronic pain conditions in affected patients. MRI is non-invasive, involves no harmful ionizing radiation or injections, and does not use any form of sedation. Furthermore, participants may choose to stop participating at any time during the visit. Study enrollment will not affect the participant’s care at BCH in any way.
