POLL: McDonald's Might be Adding a Big Mac Variation

LEXINGTON, MA—Don't freak. McDonald's isn't changing the Big Mac. As far as we know, the company has no plans to mess with the carefully balanced sandwich made of two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese on a sesame seed bun.

It is, however, considering expanding on the essence of the Big Mac to offer other options based on the beefy double-decker, reports multiple media outlets.

In selected markets, McDonald's is testing a bigger and smaller version of the Big Mac, including the Grand Mac and the Mac Jr, reports Fox News. The Grand Mac expands the patties to a third of a pound, and the Mac Jr. is "basically a single-layer Big Mac." Apparently, a smaller Mac packs the same flavor, but it is easier to manage when you're on the go.

The bigger Mac would cost $4.89 and the smaller one between $2.39 and $2.59, reports Restaurant Business, and would be tested in some 120 restaurants, in Ohio and Dallas first.

Lexington's McDonald's location, located on Rte. 128 North, will not be a part of the testing, but could be home to the new "Macs" if all goes well.

McDonald's met last week with franchisees to talk about refreshing the business, which has seen a decline in recent years, reports the Associated Press.
