LEXINGTON – Residents of the Town of Lexington will be getting an update soon on plans to build a new Minuteman High School. On Thursday, October 22, the Minuteman School Building Committee will make a presentation at the town’s new Community Center, 39 Marrett Road (Route 2A), Lexington, from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

On August 6, the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) voted to endorse construction of a new high school and move the project into the schematic design phase. Minuteman has been working with the MSBA since 2009 and explored several alternatives, including repairing the current building, renovating the school, and building new.

Building a new school was determined to be the least expensive alternative for local taxpayers and the option with the most educational benefits for students.

The MSBA-funded project will create a safe, modern facility designed to provide powerful career and technical education and robust academics for students and ensure the school’s continued accreditation by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC). NEASC has placed Minuteman on “Warning” status solely due to the condition of the school’s facilities.

MSBA is expected to fund a minimum of 40% of eligible project costs.

Minuteman is an award-winning regional high school located in Lexington. The new school will be built on school-owned land in Lincoln, immediately adjacent to the existing high school.
