Pure Solutions Announces Kick-Off for Tick Treatment Season
Record-breaking winter to result in increased number of ticks

Pure Solutions, a provider of safe, environmentally sustainable methods for outdoor services such as tick, mosquito, and deer control, for both commercial and residential properties, announced today that it has begun providing treatments for the 2015 tick season. Pure Solutions closely monitors Center for Disease Control (CDC) studies on Lyme Disease year over year, and with a 12% increase in the number of confirmed and probable cases from 2012 to 2013, along with the heavy 2014/2015 winter, has identified early Spring as the ideal time to begin actively fighting the various tick-borne illnesses.
“Some may speculate that cold weather and heavy snow would kill-off local tick populations, but the Earth is great at retaining heat,” says Trevor W. Nelson, Co-Founder of Pure Solutions. “Through the winter, snow will actually act as a blanket to insulate and further retain the geothermal energy stored beneath Earth’s surface. Ticks take advantage of this, and will burrow as low as possible under leaf litter and become dormant. This past winter, record-setting snow created a thicker blanket, meaning even more insulation than normal. When the snow melts and temperatures become warmer, the ticks reactivate. That is what makes late winter and early spring the perfect time to begin your treatments around yards, playing fields, and/or commercial business that will see increased use as we enter warmer months.”
Blacklegged ticks, also known as deer ticks, have a 2-year life cycle and go through three stages of development: larvae, nymph and adult. In the early spring, adult deer ticks that were dormant during the winter emerge to lay thousands of eggs in leaf litter and other brush. Later in the spring, the eggs will hatch, and nymph stage deer ticks begin to look for their first hosts of the season, often targeting humans, pets, deer, and rodents. It is estimated that around 20% of nymph stage ticks, which are highly active during the late spring, carry Lyme disease.

“We take great pride in creating safe and enjoyable environments for the residents, communities, and business owners that we serve,” says Brian Whittemore, cofounder of Pure Solutions. “We started the company because of our concern over the health risks posed by ticks and mosquitos, and the negative long-term side effects caused by commonly used/traditional pesticides. We developed PROGAEA™ by Pure Solutions as part of our quest to find the safest, most effective products in the market, and to develop state-of-the-art equipment and methodologies to utilize these products without harming the community or environment.”
PROGAEA is a family of all-natural products which utilize proprietary botanical extracts and oils for outdoor services such as tick, mosquito, and deer control. PROGAEA Tick & Mosquito disrupts the neurotransmitter function in target insects, and provides residual control of the treatment area. By controlling the population of the adult ticks as they emerge from dormancy, Pure Solutions lays the groundwork for a decreased number of eggs being laid, which will reduce the overall population for the season. PROGAEA is National Organic Program (NOP) compliant, making it safe to be applied around children, pets, and delicate plant life, and has no aquatic toxicity. Pure Solutions employs a careful and strategic application method in order to provide the most effective service without disrupting the environment. For more information, visit puresolutions.com.
