Reading & Writing Enrichment with Minuteman

Join Minuteman Community Education for Reading & Writing Enrichment for for students entering grades 1 & 2 or grades 3 & 4!

Grades 1 & 2:
This course is designed for students entering grades 1 - 2, who consistently meet or exceed grade level standards in the areas of reading and language arts and who possess a passion for reading and writing. Literacy independence will be fostered through this four week program. Children will read from a variety of genres; practicing  reading strategies, which include comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary. Writing activities will be incorporated each day with instruction focusing on sentence and paragraph organization, and topic development. Throughout the course, students will engage in hands-on, creative projects and brain teasers designed to challenge their critical thinking and analytical skills. Students will also use technology to extend their skills.

Grades 3 & 4:
Morning Session: 8:30 - 11:30 am or Afternoon Session: 12:00 - 3:00 pm
This course is designed for students entering grades 3 - 4, who possess a passion for reading and writing. It is intended to provide enrichment activities for students who confidently and consistently meet or exceed grade level skills. Literacy skills will be developed through a number of teaching methods. Children will read from a variety of genres, complete reading responses, character sketches, and selection summaries. Journal writing will be incorporated each day. In addition, students will complete various creative writing assignments. Instruction will focus on paragraph organization and topic development.  Throughout the course, students will engage in hands-on, creative projects, and brain teasers, designed to challenge their critical thinking and analytical skills. This class is not intended for remediation.
