Rep. Clark Named Assistant Whip for 114th Congress

Congresswoman Katherine Clark has been appointed Assistant Whip in the 114th Congress by Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer, of Maryland, her office announced Monday.

Clark, a Democrat from Melrose, was first elected to her 5th Congressional District seat in a special election in 2013. She replaced now U.S. Sen. Ed Markey.

Hoyer released the following statement about the appointment:

“In Congress, Congresswoman Clark is a champion for women and families and is an essential voice of her district, our country and our party. She brings an important perspective to the whip team, and I look forward to working with her in this new role as we build an economy that works for everyone.”

Clark had the following in a statement:

“Families at home are frustrated by the disconnect between their needs and the priorities in the Republican led Congress. I am grateful to Congressman Hoyer for the opportunity to help Democrats in Congress continue to fight for families across the country by protecting social security, ensuring fair wages and making child care more affordable.”
