South Lexington Transportation Forum Nov. 18

Town officials have been working with a consulting forum on a study of the area.

The following is from the Town of Lexington:

A final public meeting for the South Lexington Transportation Study will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014 at Brookhaven at Lexington (1010 Waltham Street) from 7:30PM - 9:30PM. Town staff have been working with the consulting firm of Fay, Spofford & Thorndike (FST) to develop a transportation study of South Lexington. The study includes multimodal transportation analysis that identifies how the study area’s network will operate once permitted commercial projects are constructed and occupied and all currently planned roadway improvements have been implemented.

The study area boundaries (see map on next page) include Marrett Road (Route 2A) from Waltham Street to Lincoln Street; Concord Avenue from Waltham Street to Spring Street; Waltham Street from Concord Avenue to Marrett Road; Spring Street from Concord Avenue to Marrett Road; Lincoln Street from Weston Street to Marrett Road; and Middle Street from Cary Avenue to Lincoln Street. Hayden Avenue, the major corridor serving the commercial districts is also included.

A public meeting was held last fall at Brookhaven at Lexington. At that meeting FST presented the results of the existing and future conditions analysis, identified multimodal traffic issues/opportunities and reviewed potential improvement options for study area intersections. Approximately 80 residents attended to comment on the findings, ask questions and identify other transportation related concerns in the study area.

On November 18th consultants will discuss the future operations of the transportation network and present the preferred mitigation options based on public and staff feedback. While the event is primarily for residents in close proximity to the study area to voice questions, comments and concerns, all are welcome. Visitors can park in the visitor lot by the main entrance or use Brookhaven’s employee parking lot by entering the main driveway, bearing right towards the facilities main entrance and taking a right into the employee parking lot.
