Special Town Meeting: A Peek at the Warrant

Medical marijuana, a TIF proposal are expected to be discussed at a special Town Meeting called for today, June 17, in Lexington.

Monday, June 17, has been set as the date for a special Town Meeting to consider four articles, including a tax increment financing proposal, a medical marijuana moratorium and a little housekeeping.

One of the articles would consider a TIF agreement to support Netherlands-based uniQure’s capital improvements plan should the company decide to establish a base here in Lexington.

Another article proposes a moratorium on the use of land or structures in town for medical marijuana treatment centers. The idea here is to bide a little time to allow the town can better educate the community following the new laws and guidelines after the 2012 approval of medical marijuana in Massachusetts.

A third article will clean up a technical error associated with the approved purchase of about 10 acres of the Scottish Rite property at 33 Marrett Road during a special Town Meeting earlier this year. According to the warrant article’s description:

The motion as approved identifies an incorrect financing source. Part (a) of the motion states that $3,560,000 “be raised in the tax levy”. It should have read “…$1,085,778 be raised in the tax levy and $2,474,222 be appropriated from the general fund unreserved fund balance.”
