Sports Week in Review, Aug. 20 - Aug. 26

A recap look at the games and stories Patch covered in and around Lexington this week.

This week, the Lexington Blue Sox continued their quest for an unprecedented fifth consecutive Intercity League championship.

But, in order to make even get a shot at making league history, the Blue Sox needed to land a spot in the championship series. After a first-round bye, Lexington got all it could handle from the Reading Bulldogs in the semifinals.

On Friday night, it took some for the Blue Sox to earn a victory in the second game of a playoff double-header. He went deep late in the game to put the top-seeded Lexington squad ahead in the series.

But the Bulldogs wouldn’t go quietly, as they forced a Game 5 on Monday.

As with the rest of the series, the decisive game was a nail-biter. Lexington earned a with a walk-off squeeze play by Ross Curley. That scored Graham in the bottom of the seventh to send the Blue Sox bench into a frenzy.

On Wednesday night, Game 1 of the final series lived up to expectations, as both the Blue Sox and Andre Chiefs turned in some stellar pitching. However, , holding Andre to three hits and no runs to take the series lead off the bat.

On Thursday, the Blue Sox crept with a breakout offensive performance. They smacked 13 hits and crossed home plate eight times in a decsive seven-run victory. The bottom half of the lineup go 7-for-11 with six runs scored.

The Blue Sox and Chiefs shifted the ICL championship series to Malden for Game 3 on Friday night.
