Sports Week in Review, July 23 - July 29

A recap look at the games and stories Patch covered in and around Lexington this week.

This week, the Lexington Post 38 American Legion baseball team continued play in the Chairman’s Cup, a postseason tournament for teams in District 5 that did not make the playoffs.

Last Friday, Lexington faced Concord Post 158 in a losers’ bracket elimination game. in a big way, exploding for 17 hits and 16 runs in beating the visitors by 15. Chris Shaw had a big day with five RBIs and a grand slam in the first inning.

On Sunday, the next edition of the annual was announced. The volleyball team will hold the fundraiser during the match at Ralph Lord Gymnasium on Sept. 30. The Minutemen have held the event each year since 2009, when former teammate Molly Eisenberg passed away from ovarian cancer.

The on Wednesday night. Having already lost to the Andre Chiefs twice in two tries this season, the Blue Sox finally got past the opponent with a 9-4 victory at LHS. Staff ace Matt Karis had a rare off-night, but was still good enough to pick up this fourth win of the season.

There was more action on the diamonds around town on Thursday night for the Lexington Men’s Senior Softball League. , who has long been involved in the league as a coach, player and assistant commissioner. Just one week now remains before the league begins its playoff tournament.
