Lexington Blue Sox heat up in preparation for Intercity League postseason.
The Lexington Blue Sox are gearing up for the Intercity League playoffs. The team won three of its four games this week and has just one more week to go before the start of the postseason.
On Thursday, the Blue Sox took down the Wakefield Merchants 3-1 behind a spectacular performance from starting pitcher Matt Karis.
The right-hander pitched a complete game, surrendering the Merchants' lone run on four hits to go with nine strikeouts. He didn't walk a batter.

At the plate, the Blue Sox scored two runs in the second inning without the benefit of a hit and added an insurance tally on Sean McElroy's double in the sixth.
Lexington, which sits in second place in the standings behind the Andre Chiefs, started the week with a 3-1 loss to the Watertown Reds. But it was all "W's" from there.

The Blue Sox beat the Reading Bulldogs 4-2 on Monday and pounded the Mooney Dental Tanners 12-1 on Tuesday. Lexington smacked 14 hits in blowing out the Tanners.
Lexington rounds out its regular-season road schedule with games this weekend at the Mooney Dental Tanners on Friday and at the Medford Americans on Sunday. The Blue Sox, currently second to the Andre Chiefs, will enter the playoffs riding a five-game homestand.
