Lexington athletes open competition at summer Bay State Games.
Hundreds of athletes took to the fields this week to open the summer portion of the Bay State Games. Among them were several representing Lexington.
Will Marcal and Rob Krentzman competed on the baseball diamond as members of the Metro team. Marcal is a rising senior at Lexington High School and Krentzman will be a senior at Buckingham Browne & Nichols in Cambridge this fall. Both were in the starting lineup when Metro opened the baseball tournament against the Coastal team on Monday.
The baseball tournament wrapped up Thursday with the West team beating the Northeast to claim the gold medal. Metro finished the four-day tourney with just one win.

Also Thursday, Lexington's Thomas Ballenthin, another soon-to-be LHS senior, helped the Metro team get off to a good start in the soccer tournament. Ballenthin, a defender, was on the field for both of Metro's victories in the opening round at Waltham High School.
The soccer tournament runs through Sunday.
