Sports Week in Review, June 11 - June 17

A recap look at the games and stories Patch covered in and around Lexington this week.

With the high school spring season just about in the books, this week it was time to turn elsewhere to quench our thirst for sports. And the Boston Bruins provided just the thing to do that.

The B’s stormed back against the Vancouver Canucks in the Stanley Cup Final to capture the team’s first NHL championship since 1972. Black and Gold fans from across the area reveled in their team’s triumph. In Lexington, Matt Scully left little doubt about which team he supports, as the fan for all to see.

Perhaps he will be among the thousands, possibly more, that are on Saturday for the victory parade.

On Thursday, the Lexington Blue Sox to fly past the Watertown Reds in a rematch of last summer’s Intercity League championship series. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but was pushed back.

There was in fact some high school sports businesses to attend to this week.

Last Friday, the boys’ tennis team for a second straight MIAA North Division 1 sectional title. The top-seeded Minutemen fell to No. 2 St. John’s Prep of Danvers, which was the only team to defeat LHS this season, having done so twice.

On Sunday, from across the state converged on Dilboy Stadium in Somerville for an all-star game. Several players from the Lexington team were in attendance.
