Spring After School Programs Start Next Week

Enjoy spring while learning about nature at Wright-Locke Farm (Winchester, MA)

Wright-Locke Farm’s youth education programs offer children a unique, hands-on experience learning about farming and the natural world on a historic working farm. All programs include lessons and activities related to agriculture, the environment, or natural science while utilizing the fields, pastures, barns, and wooded trails as a living classroom. Specific subject focuses include soil, compost, worms, plants, Wright-Locke Farm’s domesticated animals (sheep, goats, chickens, honeybees), land conservation, farm history, select wildlife (plants, animals, insects, fungi), and more. Daily activities include visiting or caring for farm animals, cooking healthy and seasonal dishes to try, tending two youth gardens, and free choice time to partake in games, arts and crafts, and more.

Next week marks the start of the farm's Spring After School Programs for kids in elementary and middle school. These programs meet once per week over six weeks, allowing children to see the incredible changes that occur around the farm during its spring transition. Each week, kids will explore the biological kingdom through the farm and complete their program with a summer solstice lesson and celebration. There is still availability in both the Tuesday and Thursday afternoon programs for kids in grades 3 - 8 (meet from 3:30 - 5:30pm at the farm). Sign up today! There is also still some availability in the farm's Spring Preschool Programs for kids ages 4 - 5.

Wright-Locke Farm’s educational workshops for adults and teens are a great way to learn practical skills related to healthy living, small-scale agriculture, and the wonders of nature. All workshops take place on the Farm or at Saint Eulalia’s Parish kitchen (50 Ridge Street- right next door) and are open to individuals ages 14+ unless stated otherwise. Several workshops featured this spring allow children ages 8 and over to attend with an adult. Please see the farm's educational workshop webpage for more information or to register for a workshop.
