Strawberries ares a perennial belong to the rose family. They are the first local ripe fruit in the Spring. They are also one of three the native fruits in Massachusetts, along with cranberries and blueberries.
According to WebMD, strawberries are among the top-20 fruits in antioxidant capacity, and about eight strawberries provides more vitamin C than an orange. Strawberries are known to protect your heart, increase HDL (good) cholesterol, lower blood pressure and guard against cancer.
