Teens Help Fight Cancer: Sign Up Now for PMC Teen Mountain Bike Ride

Boston area teens can now sign up for the third annual Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Teen Mountain Bike Ride (register here: www.kids.pmc.org/tmbr.aspx). Open to all Boston-area teens between the ages of 12 and 18, the ride will be held on Sunday, September 28th at 10:00am at The Hale Reservation in Westwood, MA. Organizers have chosen a 1.7-mile gently rolling carriage trail, which riders can loop around multiple times during the event.

The ride offers a way for teenagers to become part of the PMC mission, involving young people in volunteerism and fundraising in a safe and athletic way, and participants can earn community service hours for their involvement. Last year’s ride involved over 100 participants from 18 high schools, and they raised close to $13,000.00 for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The PMC Teen Mountain Bike Ride was started in 2012 by Wellesley brother-sister duo and Kids’ Ride veterans, Matthew Piispanen, 18, and Nicole Piispanen, 16. Both have participated in the PMC Kids’ Ride program since they were in elementary school when they organized Team Wipeout. This year, Lexington High School sophomore, Simon Carruthers, will be organizing Team Lexington to ride. A party is scheduled after the event with student DJs, food, and raffle prizes. Two mountain bikes will be given away; one awarded to the top fundraiser and one in the raffle.
