Weekend Soup Making and Bird Watching Workshops

Educational programs hosted by Wright-Locke Farm (Winchester, MA)

Wright-Locke Farm’s Educational Workshops for teens and adults this fall include a variety of subjects related to local food and the wonders of nature. Consider attending one or more of the following:

Healthy Soup Making Workshop with Gena Mavuli this Saturday, October 24 from 10am-12pm at Saint Eulalia’s Parish (50 Ridge Street, Winchester, MA).

A quality, nourishing soup can meet all of your needs: fill a belly, cure a cold, or serve as a party entree, afternoon snack, or warm hiking companion. All good soups start with one basic ingredient: a high quality broth. The better your broth, the better your soup. Learn to make rich, nourishing soups with nutritional consultant Gena Mavuli. During the workshop, she will demo one homemade broth and two soups, and we’ll do plenty of tasting. Get ready to get your hands dirty as you help cut, chop, and simmer.

Also this weekend: Introduction to Bird Watching Walk on Sunday, October 25 from 9-11am at Wright-Locke Farm (78 Ridge Street, Winchester).

For the price of a pair of binoculars and a morning’s walk, bird watching offers many insights into the natural world. This educational walk, hosted by Andrea Golden, will teach participants how to identify birds, where to look for them, and what birds one can expect to see at different times of the year. After a brief discussion at the Farm, we’ll explore the ponds and woods around the Farm as well as in the adjoining conservation areas (Locke Pond and Whipple Hill). This small area provides a variety of habitats throughout the year for different birds, including ducks, herons, woodpeckers and songbirds. Bring binoculars if you have them, and dress for the weather. No dogs, please.
