The evacuation area was Lowell Street from Smith Farm Trail to the Peabody line, including Lil's Way and Valis Way, according to officials.

Emergency responders went door to door notifying residents of the evacuation order.

"If you have not been contacted personally by police and fire you can stay in your home at this time," officials said late Tuesday morning. "If you are in the evacuation area, please do not start your vehicle, and make your way to Main Street at Lowell Street by foot."

Those who need assistance were asked to contact Police Dispatch at 781-334-3131.

A shelter site was set up at the Lynnfield Senior Center for all affected residents.
