Despite Rain, Memorial Day A Success
Weather can't dampen sprit of assembled residents, veterans, town leaders.
By Marie Lagman, Director of Media Ministry, Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative
Our Lynnfield Memorial Day Parade was rained out once again, but the spirit of the day could not be dampened.
The veterans, first responders, and scouts were honored for their service. Bruce Siegel, Lynnfield's Veterans Services Officer, organized the event and served as master of ceremonies. The Lynnfield High School band, led by Tom Westmoreland, played the national anthem and taps. Chris Barrett, Board of Selectmen Chair, was a featured speaker. Marine Captain Charles Leach, a Lynnfield native, was also a featured speaker. Father Paul Ritt, Pastor of the Lynnfield Catholic Collaborative, provided the invocation and benediction. Middle School students read the Gettysburg Address and the Honor Roll. Lynnfield native and former Naval aviator Bill Wilkinson donated a print to honor Korean War veterans to the town and it was presented by his friend and fellow veteran Bill Munroe. John Locsco, a WWII veteran, was given a standing ovation.
