A release from Bakes for Breast Cancer:

LYNNFIELD – Enjoy dessert for one week while also helping fight breast cancer during Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer from May 6 through Mother’s Day on May 12. Restaurants, supermarkets, bakeries, cafés, and ice cream shops throughout Massachusetts will participate in this year’s 20th annual Boston Bakes, including Gaslight at MarketStreet in Lynnfield.

Establishments have the option to designate all sales of one specific dessert or fifty-percent of proceeds from their entire dessert menu to support breast cancer care and research. Proceeds raised will benefit the nonprofit breast cancer organization Bakes for Breast Cancer which will support the research of Dr. Rachel Freedman at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Freedman’s clinical trials will focus on treatment for older breast cancer patients, an area of research that has been vastly under subsidized.

Twenty years ago, Carol Sneider, Founder and President of Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer, set out to create a simple event so that anyone could make a difference in the fight against breast cancer. “What began with 42 pastry chefs committed to donating their culinary creations to raise money for breast cancer research, has grown to over 200 of Boston’s favorite dining spots and shops participating in our annual event,” says Sneider. “During one week, anyone can help raise much needed funds simply by ordering dessert or purchasing a sweet at one of our participating locations throughout Massachusetts– it’s that easy,” Sneider adds. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $1,500,000.

This year’s event will be dedicated to the memory of Cristina Moniz-Baltatzidis, a friend and longtime supporter of Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.
