A Lesson On Speed, Fun, and Racing For Lynnfield Cub Scouts
With help from Jim Wallace of Lynnfield Fire Department, scouts take to the track at K1 Indoor Go-Kart racing in Wilmington.

A release from Lynnfield‘s Cub Scout Pack 48:
Lynnfield's Cub Scout Pack 48 Bear Den and Webelos Dens recently enjoyed a thrilling day of racing at K1 Indoor Go-Kart racing in Wilmington.
K1 offers a professional indoor race course and battery powered Go-Karts that can reach speeds of 20 miles per hour. That may not sound fast, but in a small Go-Kart on a course filled with jarring twists and turns, 20 mph is really fast. Before the races began, Lynnfield resident and amateur auto racer, Jim Wallace, generously taught the scouts all the racing basics including how to plot the best line through the course, how to spot and understand the various race flags the course operators wave during races, and, most importantly, how to drive fast and safe. While Jim's racing experience is with a real race car (an RX-7), the same principles apply to racing the K1 Go-Karts.

It was a great honor learning how to race from Jim. He is a member of the Lynnfield Fire Department and a alumnus of Lynnfield's own Cub Scout Pack 48.
The Scouts then put on their professional racing helmets, buckled into five-point racing harnesses, and gave their best on the race course. Each race consisted of 12 laps. Family members watched from the viewing area next to the track and monitored each racer's lap times and placement among the other racers on a giant projection screen.
