LHS Cheer Squad Begins Season On A Winning Note
Squad won their division as well as medal for best music during recent Ipswich Invitational.
The following is a reader-submitted announcement. (email your team's sports updates and photos to william.laforme@patch.com).
The Cheer Squad competed successfully in the season's first competition, the Ipswich Invitational on Saturday October 22 by winning their division. Co-captains Bridget Yahoodik and Giana Grimaldi want to thank the many people who helped support them by attending this competition and through their recent fundraisers. The money raised was used to offset the cost of choreography and music, and not so coincidentally, they won a medal for Best Music Selection, in addition to a trophy for their choreographed routine.
The cheerleaders also want to thank Ipswich for being a wonderful, thoughtful host for this first time event, by coordinating many vendors and plenty of reasonably priced food items to sustain the squad. A portion of the proceeds of the competition went to support finding a cure for breast cancer which is a cause near and dear to the hearts of all the girls.
The team is still building its repertoire under the direction of Courtney Whitaker, but the routine is already punctuated by amazing tumbling, stunts and synchronization. Although the squad can be seen at the varsity football games, that venue is not conducive to the dangerous routines these girls do in competition. And in addition, the competition is so intense they wouldn't want to risk tipping their hand and revealing some of the one-of-a-kind moves it takes to win throughout the season. Plan to come to the next competition at Lowell High School on Sunday, October 30th at 1 p.m., to see just how talented and committed these cheerleader athletes are.
