LHS duo suit up at Hockey Night in Boston
Tyler Smith and Jeremy Young play for Central squad at elite tournament
Lynnfield High hockey was well-represented this week by senior defensive tandem Tyler Smith and Jeremy Young.
The Pioneer duo traded in the blue and gold of LHS for the navy, red, and yellow of the Central team at the Hockey Night in Boston Major Showcase in Haverhill. The tournament, now in its 37th year, has produced dozens of division-1 players as well as many NHLers including Jeremy Roenick, Keith Tkachuk, and hall of famer Brian Leetch.
“The tournament’s got a lot of history,” Smith said. “It’s fun. There are a lot of scouts in the audience. It’s fun to play in the summer.”

“It’s been fun learning how they live on and off the ice,” Young said. “They’re good competition too.

Playing for a new team can be difficult, but the transition has been smooth for Young and Smith who were paired together on the same defensive line.
“We’re D partners everywhere we go,” Smith said. “We’re best friends off the ice. It’s just really fun to play together.”
Numerous prep school, college, and juniors scouts were in attendance, but impressing mom and dad was just as important.
“They’re really happy for us,” Smith said. “Playing in this big, major tournament it’s really fun for them to come and watch.”
With the tournament now over Smith and Young will prepare for their senior year and their last season in Lynnfield blue and gold.
