Lynnfield Church Donates "Cold Weather Kits" To Families

The kits were filled with hats, gloves socks and lip balm, among other things to protect against the chilly temperatures.

LYNNFIELD, MA — Wintry weather is already settling into the area and not every family can afford to bundle up to stay warm. Lynnfield's Our Lady of Assumption Church decided to help those families make it through the winter, by creating and donating cold weather kits.

Throughout the months of September and October, Our Lady of the Assumption parishioners collected items that would be of use in the cold weather -- such as gloves, hats, lip balm, tissues, socks as well as general toiletry supplies, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, and deodorant, to donate to those in need. The OLA Prayer Shawl Ministry knitted and donated blankets and shawls.

Before the items were boxed and donated they were blessed by Father David Taurasi.

OLA's 7th and 8th grade Faith Formation students then put together 70 "Cold Weather Care Kits", as well as "Halloween Kits" which included candy and halloween-themed activities. Kate McGrath, OLA Faith Formation Coordinator for Grades K-8, delivered them all to the Catholic Charities Childcare Center in Lynn.
