Lynnfield Participates in Wreaths Across America Day

Knights of Columbus and OLA School Students Participate in Bourne.

The Lynnfield Knights of Columbus invited the 7th and 8th grade students from Our Lady of the Assumption School to join them in attending the Wreaths Across America Day ceremony at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne on Dec. 16.

The Knights of Columbus is one of many organizations that participate in the annual Wreaths Across America program. Donations are collected by the KOC statewide and then wreaths are purchased for laying on the graves of veterans. About 19,000 wreaths were laid this year at the Massachusetts National Cemetery to remember and honor the veterans who have served our country and helped preserve our freedom. Three wreaths were donated by OLA School and were placed on graves.

This beautiful tradition started in 1992 when a family from Harrington, Maine, donated 5,000 wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery. Since then, this has grown into a national event and in 2014, about 700,000 wreaths were laid at 1,000 locations including 226,525 wreaths at Arlington.
