The first week of Lynnfield spring sports yielded scrimmages and the unfortunate rainouts, which for everyone in the New England area should come as no surprise.
Some teams did manage to get out and compete in some regular season action this week. Here is a look at some of the teams who got their season started off.
Lynnfield 3, Austin Prep 2
Ava Grava won a straight set, 6-2, 6-2, second singles match and second doubles seniors Ashley Duhaime and Megan Rondeau needed three sets (4-6, 6-3, 6-2) to take out their counterparts.

Austin Prep was able to tie the match at 2 points apiece, but Molly McCarthy finsished off third singles with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Boys TennisLynnfield 4, Ipswich 1

It was a day of comebacks for the Pioneers in their season open victory against Ipswich. Kevin Carr fell down 4-0 in the first set, but came back to win his match 7-5, 6-2 in the third singles.
Andrew Fabiszewski and Pat Burgess lost the first set 3-6, but recouped to win the last two 6-2, 6-3. James Hook needed three sets to defeat No. 1 singles Dana Reid for another point. While Alex Rugato and will Durkee scooped up the final point in second singles.
Nick Romano took the only loss, but head coach John Harrison said his second singles battled the whole time. He ultimately fell to Mike Robie, 4-6, 6-2, 5-7.
“We had a real strong practice on Thursday after some tough weather this week,” said Harrison. “The kids gave a great effort today. I am very happy with the team's performance to open the season.
Lynnfield 9, Manchester Essex 8
Matt Kelly scored four goals on the afternoon, but none were more important than his game-winning goal with 3:25 left in the game. AJ Roberto dished out five assists and had two goals, while Shane McRae added two goals and Blake Strader potted another.
Nick Critch made 12 saves for the Pioneers.
