Lynnfield U-10 Softball Takes The Plate
The Lynnfield Lightning comes out swinging against North Reading.
Earlier this week the Lynnfield Lightning U-10 girls softball team faced off against the team that will be their rivals through middle school and high school - the North Reading Hornets. Lynnfield dominated the field both offensively and defensively throughout the night. Their efforts allowed them to walk home with a 10-0 win over North Reading.
Coming Together as the Season Continues
Coach Tom Keane said that the girls have really come together as a team. At the end of the spring softball season, tryouts were hosted for summer league. Early in the season the girls lost some members, leaving them with 11 players to fill 10 field positions. However, the girls show up and play hard every game to avoid having to forfeit due to a lack of players. So far this season the girls have a 4-6 record, one which Coach Keane explains doesn’t truly reflect the effort and talent of his players. “This season has been great, a strong season,” Keane said, “we have a few strong hitters and a strong defense.”

Keane attributes a lot of the teams’ strength to his assistant coach and team sponsor Allan Berry, owner of Berry Mechanical. Berry Mechanical provided the team uniforms and Berry will take the girls out for ice cream after a big win. “He is a tremendous support,” said Keane.

Team Unity
“We focus on everything in practice,” said Keane, adding that the girls are really there to learn and have fun, making them a great group to coach.
Through the night the girls cheered each other on and encouraged each other to do their best, both on offensive and defense. “There is really a lot of team unity,” Keane said.
