Lynnfield Voter's Guide: The Presidential Primary is Tuesday, March 1

LYNNFIELD, MA—Super Tuesday is tomorrow and Lynnfield residents, as well as others throughout the state, will be heading to the polls to vote.

The Presidential Primary will be held on Tuesday, March 1.

Voters are encouraged to confirm their voter status and polling location by visiting the Secretary of State’s office online or by calling the Town Clerk’s office.

Lynnfield’s public schools will be open Tuesday, and there is a professional development day Wednesday which calls for an early release.

What You Need to Know about Party Affiliation

There are four political parties in Massachusetts:

• D - Democratic Party
• R - Republican Party
• J - Green-Rainbow
• CC - United Independent Party

When voting on March 1, 2016, voters who are enrolled in one of the above parties can only vote on the ballot for that party.

Voters who are unenrolled in a party (commonly known as “Independent”) will be listed on the voter list with the party code “U.” Unenrolled voters and voters who are members of Political Designations can choose which party’s ballot they would like to receive.

Residents had until Feb. 10 to change their party enrollment for the Presidential Primary.

Polling Locations and Hours

Voting for all four precincts are at Lynnfield High School, 275 Essex St. . Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Absentee Voting

Voters who are unable to vote on Election Day because of physical disability, religious beliefs or absence from the town may vote by absentee ballot. If you will be absent from Burlington for an extended period of time, you may submit a single application for all elections occurring within the year the application is accepted.

Applications for absentee ballots may be obtained from the Town Clerk or the Office of the Secretary of State. Applications may be submitted in person or by mail. All absentee ballots must be mailed out so the Town Clerk reminds everyone to allow time for the ballot to be mailed to you so that you will get them in time for the election.Click Here for an application.

In a primary election, a voter who is not registered in a political party must specify the ballot of the party of choice in the application. You will not become registered in a party because of your participation in a primary.
