Lynnfield's Gelotti Honored By Cardinal Sean O’Malley

Receives Cheverus Award is given in recognition of exemplary yet unassuming service to the Church and God's people.

Dick Gelotti, long-time parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish in Lynnfield, was bestowed the Bishop Cheverus Award medal by Cardinal Sean O’Malley on Sunday, Dec. 3, at Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Newton. The Cheverus Award is given in recognition of exemplary yet unassuming service to the Church and God’s people.

Mr. Gelotti has been a member of Our Lady of the Assumption since 1950 and has served in many capacities over the years including sacristan, altar server, lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and funeral acolyte. When posed with the question of what he does for the parish, Dick’s own response gives insight into why he was chosen to receive this prestigious award: “Whatever anyone needs in order to give back to God for all that He has done for me."

Gelotti grew up attending St. Agnes Parish in Reading, served as a civil engineer for Essex County prior to his retirement, and raised four children with his late wife, Nancy.
