Matt Deluccia and John Festa Skate with the Best

LHS duo plays at HNIB Major Showcase.

Matt Delucccia and John Festa, both stars on the Lynnfield High hockey team, are taking part in the Hockey Night in Boston Major Showcase this week.

Deluccia, a rising senior, is playing for the powerhouse Greater Boston team which won the Major Showcase title last year.

Deluccia has gone against players from all over New England as well as Connecticut and New York.

“It’s been really fun,” Deluccia said of his time with Greater Boston. “It really helps when you can get defense that can back you up and do everything exactly how you want them to. My team is undefeated as of now and hopefully we can win it all.”

Deluccia’s teammates include several division-1 commits as well as numerous players who play at the top prep schools around New England. He is the lone representative from Lynnfield High.

“It’s kind of special,” Deluccia said. “It shows that high school players can play too.”

Lynnfield was also represented by John Festa. The tall, rangy sophomore played for the Mass/New England Sophomore team.

Festa, a rising sophomore who scored 13 goals last season for the Pioneers, has gone up, and played well, against competition two and three years older than him.

“It’s great completion especially playing against these older kids,” Festa said. “It’s so much fun.”

Festa said he has stepped up his game against the tougher competition and with all the prep school and juniors scouts watching from the stands.

“I’m trying to get better and get looked at,” Festa said. “Against these better players you’ve got to work as hard as you can.”
