Sagamore Spring Golf Club ‘Signature Hole’ Is The 16th

A look at holes on Lynnfield golf courses that are intriguing, interesting or fun to play.

Oftentimes something will jump out at you on a hole on a golf course. If could be the intimidating bunkers surrounding the green on a par 3, the daunting length on a par 5, or maybe it is a tight fairway on a par 4.

On the 16th hole at Sagamore Spring Golf Club what gets your attention is not something that will alter your score. Rather, it is the beauty of the immediate area.

If there was such a thing as a “signature hole” on this course – defined by ask.com as “the one hole that the course has decided is most aesthetically pleasing and most photogenic” – this would be the one.

From the tee you see the majestic willow tree on the right (be careful because if you hit your drive to the right there are smaller, spread out willows beyond the large one); pretty flowers and flowering weeds in front of you just beyond the tee box; and a lush, wide open fairway with large trees lining the left side of the fairway.

It is very serene and peaceful.

The beauty of the hole doesn’t end for your second shot as the fairway slopes up to a green that rests on a small hill. The green is surrounded in the back by enormous trees that give you a protected feeling when putting.

“(The 16th) is a pretty hole,” said Wendy Vanderhart of Arlington.

“The holes (like 16) that are farther from the road are so peaceful. I have not experienced quietness like this on a course,” said Joanne Paul, also of Arlington, who was playing with Vanderhart.
