Sports Roundup: Boys Lacrosse Wins Two

The Lynnfield High boys lacrosse team picked up a pair of wins this week.

The Lynnfield High boys lacrosse team had a solid week with two wins convincing wins. AJ Roberto proved why he is the leader on the offensive side of the ball with nine goals and three assists this week.

In the 12-3, Roberto wracked up four goals, while Nick Critch made 11 saves in net to cool the Saugus offense.

Head coach Joe Papagni noted that Frank Camissa won every faceoff except for one of the afternoon. For a game where faceoffs and possessions are huge for an offense to gain control of a game, that was a big way to gain conrol of the action.

Matt Kelly had two goals and four assists, while Shane McRae added two goals and an assist.

In a 9-2 league win over Wilmington, Papagni was looking for a spark. He got that from Greg Meininger. AJ Roberto had five goals in the game, but it was Meininger who helped spark Roberto’s fifth goal and later added his lone goal of the game when he raced from one end to the other.

“It was good to see Nico DiCesare get his scoring touch with two key goals,” said Papagni.

Boy’s Tennis

The Lynnfield boys tennis team got the week off to a good start with a win over Triton, but fell in matches to Hamilton-Wenham and Austin Prep.

The team had a strong 5-0 win over Triton as every match ended in straight sets.

However, they were on the opposite end of five straight set losses to Hamilton-Wenham a few days later.

“I don't think the score reflects the fact that we played pretty well against a consistently dominant team in the league,” said head coach John Harrison. “We had several good points with their team and battled in many games. Our singles players were really moving around out there, going from one corner of the baseline to the other. Their singles players really know how to put us in tough positions to make a good shot."

Felix Funke was the only player to grab a win in a 4-1 loss to Austin Prep as he displaced his opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

Andrew Fabiszewski and Pat Burgess lost their match, but coach Harrison noted that each match went the maximum number of games.
