VIDEO: Boys Hockey Denied Point in Tourney Pursuit
Lynnfield High School boys hockey Pioneers still need one point to get to the post season after loss Wednesday to Triton, 3-1.
Getting to the post-season is a huge goal for any team, but Lynnfield boys hockey coach Vin Mirasolo wondered Wednesday night if his Pioneers were really ready to take that step.
After losing to Triton Regional High School, 3-1, at in Peabody, the Lynnfield Pioneers still need one point in their final three games to qualify for the tournament.
"I think it was a little disappointing when we needed one or two points to get in the tournament, and to put the effort forth that we did today," Mirasolo said. "I don't think we had a great team effort today."

The Pioneers seemed to perk up after freshman Alex Ganter deflected into the goal a long range shot from Derek Maddaleni, to cut the score to 2-1 with 10 minutes left in the second period.
But a third-period goal by Triton stole back the momentum and put the Pioneers' playoff hopes on ice for another game.

"I thought Triton played really hard," Mirasolo said. "They did a better job getting to the puck and winning the one-on-one battles."
Lynnfield (8-6-4) gets another shot at qualifying for the tournament on Saturday against Martha's Vineyard.
