Video: LHS Hockey Knocked Out in Overtime
Lynnfield hockey team ousted from MIAA tournament Monday night by Danvers, 2-1.
Two closely matched teams battled into overtime Monday night at Salem State's Rockett Arena, but it was Lynnfield's season that ended abruptly when Danvers High's Joe Strangie found the net in sudden death overtime.
Strangie's goal gave the Falcons (10-6-5) a 2-1 victory and the chance to play in the next round of the MIAA Div. 2 North tournament against top seed Wilmington.
Danvers Head Coach Kevin Brown said his team was focused on limiting Lynnfield's shots and playing a strong defensive game.

"You get into a tournament game, sometimes you might lose your bearings a little bit," Brown said. "But I thought we did a good job with that."
The Lynnfield Pioneers (9-8-5) had jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one period on a goal by captain Shane McRae, before the Falcons' Jack McCarthy knotted the score in the second period.

After a scoreless third period, the two teams went into overtime.
"It's just very abrupt when it ends in overtime," Lynnfield Head Coach Vin Mirasolo said.
The Pioneers didn't qualify for the tournament until the second to last game of the season, with an effort Mirasolo said he hoped the team would carry over into the playoffs.
"This team had a lot of adversity over the last two weeks trying to get in," Mirasolo said. "We had a great effort in our game against North Reading. My disappointment is that it wasn't our best game."
