3 MA High School Football Teams Make National List

What are the winningest schools in state history? The defending champions are at the top of the list.

It's still August, but those helmets are already beginning to get worn in at practice. The Friday Night Lights are right around the corner, and high school football teams across Massachusetts are ready.

MaxPreps is looking ahead to the season by recognizing the top 50 winningest high school football programs in America. While the Northeast isn't exactly Texas when it comes to high school football, Massachusetts landed a few teams on the all-time list.

The top high school football program in the state is Everett. The Crimson Tide, ranked 13th in America, are 814-373-79 since 1893, having won the last two state championships to bring their total to 12. That doesn't include two national championships more than 100 years ago.

The Tide will be without legendary Coach John DiBiaso this season. DiBiaso is responsible for more than 300 of those 814 wins and all dozen state championships. After more than two decades at the helm in Everett, he is taking over at Catholic Memorial in West Roxbury.

In the list's 20th spot is Brockton, which is 801-389-64 all-time. The Boxers boast more state championships - 14 - than Everett, having won their first in 1948, when they also won their only national title. But while the Tide are the defending champions, Brockton is coming off a 3-7 season.

Leominster's 784-407-64 record is ranked 28th. The Blue Devils have won 12 state championships since 1973, but are also coming off a disappointing 3-8 season. Two bounce-back seasons would put Leominster in the exclusive 800-win club.

The top winningest team in the country is Valdosta (Ga.) with 917 wins and 24 state championships.
