Malden Looking For Member To Complete Public Works Commission

MALDEN, MA — Officials announced this week that the city is seeking to fill a vacancy on the Public Works Commission, which helps oversee several core municipal services.

Mayor Gary Christenson is looking for a resident to join the three-member board whose responsibilities include issuing curb cut permits, handling matters involving solid waste removal, setting water and sewer rates, and reviewing applications for water and sewer bill abatements. The city said applicants should ideally have a background in civil engineering and knowledge of water, sewer, drainage, roadway, and other public works-related services.

The commission is involved in decisions that directly affect residents’ everyday services and utility costs. Commissioners are appointed by the mayor, confirmed by the City Council, and serve three-year terms.

The commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m. at City Hall, though additional meetings may be scheduled if needed. Meetings are generally held in the late afternoon or early evening to make attendance easier for residents.

Those interested in the role are being asked to complete Malden’s online Boards and Commissions application. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 10.
