MALDEN, MA — The police department arrested a resident following an investigation involving illegal possession of a firearm.
Tristan White-Stewart, 18, was arrested on Friday, July 3, after Officer Blake Ferry developed information indicating that he had a firearm despite being prohibited from legally possessing one under Massachusetts law due to his age and licensing status.
As the investigation progressed, officers obtained a search warrant for a residence on Warren Avenue. The Malden Police Special Operations Unit executed the warrant with assistance from the North Metro S.W.A.T. Team.
Police said officers recovered at least one firearm during the search. Officials have not identified the type of firearm or said whether any additional weapons, ammunition, or other evidence were recovered.
If residents noticed a heavy police presence in the Warren Avenue area Friday morning, it was related to the execution of the search warrant, police said. The department added that it will maintain an increased presence in the neighborhood while the investigation continues and monitor for any additional public safety concerns.
The department credited Ferry, members of its Criminal Investigations Division, the Malden Police Special Operations Unit and several law enforcement partners with removing what it described as an illegally possessed firearm from the community.
“Excellent police work by Officer Ferry, members of the Criminal Investigations Division, the Malden Police Special Operations Unit, and our law enforcement partners helped remove an illegally possessed firearm from our community,” the department said in a statement.
The Massachusetts State Police, Lynn Police Department, Melrose Police Department, including K9 Giselle, and the North Metro S.W.A.T. Team also assisted with the investigation. White-Stewart is expected to be arraigned in Malden District Court. Police have not yet released the specific charges.
