Malden Police Officer Retires After 18-Year Career

This Veteran and active community member has called it a career.

MALDEN, MA — A longtime police officer has retired after a career that included working with local schools and youth programs throughout the city.

Officer Gustavo Kruschewsky retired following 18 years of public service, which included time with the Malden Police Department, Transit Police Department, and United States Army. City records document four years of military service for Kruschewsky before his career in law enforcement.

Kruschewsky was serving as a Malden patrol officer by 2009, according to city budget records. Throughout his time with the Malden Police Department, Kruschewsky served in a variety of roles, including the Patrol Division, as a school resource officer, in Dispatch and Communications, and on the Maplewood Square walking route.

Kruschewsky also became heavily involved in programs aimed at connecting the department with young people throughout the city. He served as an instructor and staff member with the Malden Junior Police Academy and as a coach in the Mac Singleton Basketball League. He was also involved in youth sports, school programs, and other community engagement activities.

In 2013, Kruschewsky served as a translator when Malden welcomed a delegation of six Brazilian mayors and three vice mayors to the city. During the visit, the delegation met with city officials and then-Police Chief Kevin Molis to discuss municipal government and issues facing the city's public safety departments.

Kruschewsky continued serving as a patrol officer in subsequent years, including through at least 2025, and was listed as a certified Malden Police Department officer by the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission in February 2026.

The department credited Kruschewsky's energy and enthusiasm with helping him build relationships with young people and make an impact throughout the community.

"Chief Gatcomb and all of us at the Malden Police Department thank Gustavo for his dedication and commitment to serving others," the department said in a statement. "We congratulate him on a remarkable career and wish him and his family nothing but happiness and success in this well-earned next chapter."
