Malden Street Sweeping Suddenly Suspended

MALDEN, MA — Street sweeping operations have been temporarily suspended throughout Malden while city equipment undergoes maintenance and repairs, according to the Department of Public Works.

The city's Parking Department has been notified and will suspend enforcement of street-sweeping parking restrictions until further notice. The city has not announced when sweeping operations are expected to resume.

The suspension affects residential and commercial routes that would normally be swept throughout the city. On Thursday, Aug. 27, the even-numbered sides of streets on Malden's second and fourth Thursday residential route were scheduled for sweeping between 7:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. Those streets include Barker Road, Blaine Street, Bradford Street, Central Avenue, Clapp Street, Claremont Street, Coleman Street, Fairfield Avenue, Fulton Street, Glendale Avenue, Lawrence Street, Maynard Street, Monroe Street, Morris Street, Oliver Street, Plainfield Avenue, Revere Street, Roberts Street, Shurtleff Street, Vining Street, Winchester Street and several others.

The even-numbered sides of Cross Street between Eastern Avenue and Main Street, Ferry Street, Lebanon Street, Washington Street between Clifton Street and the Melrose line, Willow Street and Winter Street were also scheduled for commercial sweeping Thursday morning, along with the Maplewood Square intersection.

Additional residential sweeping would normally take place Friday, Aug. 28, on the even-numbered sides of streets assigned to the second and fourth Friday route. That includes Bayrd Street, Blue Hill Avenue, Central Avenue between Broadway and Glenmere Avenue, Downey Street, Elwell Street, First Street, Greenwood Street, Lake Street, Loomis Street, Marshall Avenue, Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Nichols Road, Pine Tree Avenue, Rockingham Avenue, Second Street, Swains Pond Avenue, Swan Street, Williams Street, and several others. Commercial sweeping is also normally scheduled on portions of Cross, Lebanon, Washington, Willow, and Winter streets on Fridays.

Both sides of Broadway, Eastern Avenue and Lynn Street would normally be swept as part of Malden's Saturday commercial schedule on Aug. 29. No regular residential or commercial sweeping is listed for Sunday, Aug. 30.

Malden's street sweeping program generally runs from May 1 through Nov. 1, with residential streets assigned schedules based on the day of the week and week of the month. Separate commercial routes are swept on weekly or weekday schedules.
