Today's riddle: What has a tail, but no body? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Malden Power Outage Affects Hundreds (patch.com) — Hundreds of Malden residents lost electricity Monday afternoon as a National Grid outage cut power to nearly 500 customers across key streets including Washington, Main, and Mountain Avenue. City Hall reported the outage began shortly after noon, with additional nearby streets affected, while the cause remained under investigation.
2. Volleyball Recap: Lynn Classical Extends Winning Streak Against Malden (maxpreps.com) — Malden High's volleyball team fell 3–0 to Lynn Classical on Monday, dropping the Tornados to 1–1 but setting up a quick chance to rebound. Malden now prepares to face struggling Chelsea on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m., a matchup that could help the team regain momentum early in the season.
3. Massachusetts residents can claim free trees this fall to cool homes, lower energy bills (thecooldown.com) — Malden residents can sign up this fall for a free shade tree through a Mystic River Watershed Association program aimed at cooling homes and lowering energy bills. The initiative targets communities like Malden that have less tree cover and higher heat, offering residents a way to cut air-conditioning costs while improving neighborhood air quality and comfort.
4. Everett IT director charged with spending $98k in public money to buy electronics, bedding, clothes on Amazon (bostonglobe.com) — A longtime Everett IT director has been charged with allegedly using nearly $100,000 in city Amazon purchases for personal items, and he was arraigned in Malden District Court, where he pleaded not guilty. The Everett native, who once attended Malden Catholic High School, has been ordered to stay away from City Hall and is due back in court October 22.
