1. Malden Clears Way For Cottage Kitchens Beginning In 2027 (patch.com) — Malden residents will soon be able to run small cottage food businesses from their home kitchens starting January 1, 2027, after the City Council approved a key zoning change. Local baker Marlene Galla and a handful of other residents pushed for the new rules, which will allow sales of non-perishable foods while requiring inspections and permits from Malden's Board of Health. City officials are using the delayed start to build a local permitting and inspection system.
   

2. Malden Man Facing Federal Child Exploitation Charges (patch.com) — Malden residents are learning that a local man, recently employed by an after-school provider at Linden School, has been arrested on federal child exploitation charges tied to an investigation in Michigan. Malden police assisted Homeland Security with the off-campus arrest, and school officials say he has been terminated, barred from all Malden Public Schools facilities, and that there is no indication the charges involve Malden students.
   

3. Malden, MA Licensing Board — September 15, 2026 (meetingwatch.org) — Malden's Licensing Board met on September 15, 2026, and conditionally approved a site plan with changes to the landscaping requirements, a decision that could affect nearby businesses and neighbors. Residents can review the linked minutes, reports, and meeting video to see exactly what was decided and how board members discussed the proposal.
   

4. Former Everett IT director used more than $98K for personal purchases, Middlesex DA says (boston.com) — A former Everett IT director is accused of using more than $98,000 in city funds for personal online purchases and was recently arraigned in Malden District Court, where he pleaded not guilty. He was released on personal recognizance with orders to avoid Everett City Hall and city employees while prosecutors continue investigating the alleged misuse of taxpayer money.
   

5. Murphy, Cornelius F., 1893-1972 (dartmouth.edu) — A former Malden resident, Cornelius Francis Murphy grew up here, attended Malden High School, and went on to Dartmouth, where he captained the baseball team. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, he built a career with the Massachusetts Division of Employment Security and contributed to Malden civic life in several local roles.
