MALDEN, MA — A city roadway remains closed Thursday morning following an incident involving a local bridge.
Portions of overhead concrete fell from the bridge above Dartmouth Street onto the roadway and parked vehicles Wednesday night, prompting the closure of the street from Ramsdell Road near the Mountain Avenue end to Garnet Street. No injuries were reported.
Malden police, fire, and city Inspectional Services responded to the scene to assess the damage and structural condition of the area. Pedestrian traffic was also restricted to one side of the roadway as a precaution while emergency crews addressed the situation.
As of approximately 8:50 a.m. Thursday, Dartmouth Street remained closed with no estimated reopening time. The city asked residents to avoid the area, seek alternate routes, and not move or bypass any barricades while crews continue their work.
