Another Candidate Announces City Council Bid

Former Malden School Committee Member Gladys Rivera Rogers says she'll make a second attempt for a Councillor-at-Large seat this year.

Hello I am Gladys Rivera Rogers and I am running for Councillor-at-Large to represent you!

As we welcome the spring of 2013, I see a safer, stronger and more vibrant community about tobloom; one where Malden's future is brighter. I am excited to be getting back into public life sowe, together, can make that future a reality. I hope that you share my excitement and that you willgive me your vote on Election Day.

As you may know I served on the Malden School Committee from 2002-2009. I served on the: Policy Subcommittee, Chair; Safety Subcommittee, Chair; Transportation Subcommittee, Chair and Negotiations Committee. I was a strong advocate for increased substance abuse prevention programs at the high school. I was also instrumental in seeing that several Malden students wererecognized by El Mundo newspaper for their academic achievements.
I have worked with Malden High’s Pathways program; I am a former YWCA board member, North Shore Black Women’s Association member, and a Ward Seven Delegate. I have three (3) children all of whom went to the Malden Public Schools. I also have five (5) grandchildren and am happily married to my Husband Chuck.

As your City Councillor-at-Large, I intend to bring an active and experienced voice to the citycouncil that will work on behalf of the citizens of Malden. I am 100% committed to bringing mypassion for service to the city council and I intend to be an outspoken advocate for public safetyand education.
My focus will always be on improving the lives of the citizens of Malden and ensuring that ourcity is a safe, vibrant community to live, work and play.

Crime and violence will be fought withdetermined leadership and strong values.
I have been a member of the Malden community for over 50 years. In that time, I have been amentor, a youth advocate, a public servant, a School Committee member and so much more.Malden is a diverse community with many voices that need to be heard. When I serve on the CityCouncil, I want to hear your ideas, your suggestions and your concerns, because my goal is to be Your Voice on the City Council.
