Anthony Dickinson new MHSAA president

The Malden High School Alumni Association has elected Anthony N. Dickinson as its new president to lead the group in its on-going mission to help MHS’ students, particularly those in need.

Dickinson, a founding member of the MHSAA, is filling the vacancy created by the passing of Dr. George Holland, who served as president since the alumni group was formed in 2008 following the celebration of the school’s 150th anniversary.

A graduate of the Class of 1966, Dickinson has been serving as vice president focusing on acquiring and preserving artifacts and memorabilia related to the school. As archivist, his handiwork with historic photos and documents can be seen in many of the hallway display cases.

The Board of Directors elected Dickinson at its Nov. 1 meeting. It also elected Susan Vatalaro, ’67, as recording secretary.

Elected or re-elected to the board for one- or two-year terms were Vice President Diane Lind, ’54, Vice President Joanne Iovino, ’64, Treasurer Camille Colantuoni, ’70, Assistant Treasurer Michael Byrne, ’72, Arlene Ceppetelli, ’70, John Froio, ’58, Marguerite Gonsalves (educator), David Haskell, ’54, Ethel Haskell, ’54, Patti Kelly, ’80, Carol Scally, ’64, and Kathi Sheridan, ’74.

The board now focuses its attention on its next major event to raise funds to support scholarships and various programs that benefit students.

That affair is the Holiday Pasta Supper on Nov. 26 at Anthony’s function facility on Canal Street, 5-7 p.m. The menu will feature Anthony’s pasta and meatballs complete with trimmings.

This second annual holiday party is an opportunity for MHS grads, family and friends to mingle and share in the spirit of the season, play games, win prizes, dance to a d.j., and perhaps receive a visit from Santa.

The supper follows Malden’s Parade of Holiday Traditions and tree lighting ceremony in Malden Square. Those who enjoyed those afternoon activities are urged to help keep the MHS alumni spirits moving at Anthony’s.

There will be a variety of raffles, including 50-50, and among the items up for grabs will be three lottery scratch ticket “trees”. It is hoped that someone will hit it big.

Tickets at the door are adults $15, students $10, and children under 5 free. Questions? Call Carol Scally at 781-438-0864.

Looking forward to the spring, the MHSAA is also preparing for the nomination and selection process that will determine which alumni will ultimately be enshrined in its Hall of Fame April 28, 2017.
