Authorities Detonate Live Grenade Left Behind in Recently Purchased Home

Officers received a report just after 3 p.m. of a suspicious item left behind in a recently purchased home on Spring Street, Everett.

Authorities evacuated an Everett neighborhood after a grenade that was found on Spring Street on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers received a report just after 3 p.m. of a suspicious item left behind in a recently purchased home. Everett Police determined the item may be hand grenade. At this time the area was evacuated to ensure the safety of the residents.

Everett Police explosive detection K9 along with Massachusetts State Police bomb squad responded to the scene and after an investigation it was confirmed that the suspicious item was a live hand grenade. The grenade was transported to a safe area and detonated.

Everett Police posted the information online, and said the grenade was a pinapple grenade.
