Haitian Heritage Month Movie Night At The Malden Public Library

Please join us for Movie Night on Wednesday, May 6, 2026: 6:00-8:00pm at the Malden Public Library. We will be showing the movie for Haitian Heritage Month about Mountains. The film stars Atibon Nazaire, Sheila Anozier, and Chris Renois. The film is directed by Monica Sorelle and it has won 11 film festival awards.

“A Haitian demolition worker is faced with the realities of redevelopment as he is tasked with dismantling his rapidly gentrifying neighborhood [in Little Haiti, Miami].” The film explores the changing nature of neighborhoods and how communities change over time. In the Haitian Creole language there is a proverb: "Dèyè mòn gen mòn" which means, “Behind mountains there are mountains.” This is a famous Haitian proverb that roughly means when you overcome one obstacle, there is another greater obstacle or challenge ahead of you. This Haitian proverb speaks to the idea of having resilience in life.
