'Children for Children' Shines in Malden Again
The seventh annual fundraising concert has raised thousands to combat malnutrition in poor countries.
The following is from the City of Malden:
Mayor Gary Christenson recently attended the 7th annual fundraising concert performance by “Children for Children” organized by the Kruckenberg and Shumway families. The effort is undertaken during the holiday season as a way to help children in need somewhere in the world. The five oldest Kruckenberg and Shumway children, several of whom attend the Linden STEAM Academy, spent months organizing the event which took place at the Dexter Street home of the Kruckenberg family. The concert featured talented local children who sang, recited poems and played the harp, ukulele, violin, and cello. The tradition was begun by the family of Saydi Shumway, an original organizer of the event, when she was a young girl.
Each year the group raises funds for a different charitable organization. This year they chose Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN). This charity was created to combat malnutrition in 30 of the world's poorest countries. GAIN aims to increase the intake of essential micro nutrients to help 200 million children under the age of five. Their goal is to raise $4,000 by the end of December and so far they’ve raised more than $3000! Students at the Linden STEAM Academy are also planning to help them raise additional funds for the effort. The Planning Committee includes Johanna, Ezra, Saul and Delilah Kruckenberg and Hazel, Charlie and Emmeline Shumway. For more information, please email maldenchildrenforchildren@gmail.com.
