Clark Statement on Nomination of Judge Jackson to Supreme Court

If confirmed, Judge Jackson would be the first public defender and Black woman on the bench

Assistant Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Katherine Clark (MA-5) issued the below statement on the nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court of the United States.

“I am thrilled with President Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to become our newest Supreme Court Justice. Judge Jackson is a graduate of Harvard Law and a former public defender with a strong record of protecting civil rights. Her expertise and experience are critical at this moment when so many of our fundamental rights are hanging in the balance. As the first Black female nominee, her selection is historic and a major step forward in our recognition of both the incredible contributions of Black women to our country and the barriers they have faced to keep them out of positions of power. I look forward to the Senate’s swift confirmation of Judge Jackson and her many future terms as a Justice of the Supreme Court.”
